The art of creating shadow creatures with our hands is a simple pastime which is as old as the hills but still fascinating in a world filled with electronic screens and modern gadgetry. Hand shadows have an immediacy and ephemeral quality that can only be mastered with practice, play and concentration. The journey to perfecting the hand shadows can also be fun and rewarding as each new creature emerges.
Join Drew Colby (the UK's only full-time hand shadow puppeteer) as he teaches participants hand exercises, basic hand positions for the different sets of characters, and advises on light sources and practical ways to use hand shadow puppets for storytelling and engaging with audiences (whether they be young or old, numerous or solo). The workshop also includes a short session making a cut-out shadow puppet as part of the exploration of outline and silhouette as a means for expression and communication.
Drew & Shadowgraphy will also be performing My Shadow and Me On Sat 24 & Sun 25 Mar at 2pm. Tickets £5.95 Please see listing for full details. Don’t miss it.
