What is the difference between an unmasked actor and a masked actor? How does the mask change your appearance and what non-real or other character do you seek to become and in whose interests and why? This is a three hour class for all those interested in the techniques of bringing a mask to life. Through the use movement and improvisation we will explore and sample the uses of the minimal mask, character half-mask, commedia masks, neutral masks, tragic neutral masks, larval masks and Greek and Roman masks.

Malcolm Knight is the author of Mask Praxis: Theories and Practices of The Mask in Modern Drama (PhD University of Glasgow 2005). He has conducted international mask training workshops in the UK, USA, Russia, Poland and Mexico.

We will explore the body and mask through movement, improvisation, t’ai chi, and physical play. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and remove your shoes.

We would like to thank Glasgow Connected Arts Network for supporting and funding this series of CPD sessions Feb - March 2018.
