Friends of Possilpark Greenspace

Friends of Possilpark Greenspace was established in December 2008 by a group of local people, with the aim of tackling the substantial blight of vacant and derelict sites in the area. This is achieved through the physical improvement of a number of sites, the promotion and enhancement of urban biodiversity and most importantly, the delivery of a range of site-based activities, educational and arts programmes along with community celebration events. We work both with and for local people by engaging them in the planning and decision making with the aim of returning derelicts sites into positive community use.

Our flagship site, is Hamiltonhill Claypits Local Nature Reserve. A 26 acre site that had lain derelict for many decades that is now protected as a Local Nature Reserve after campaigning for several years after a community consultation identified it as a local wild greenspace that local people wanted to protect for the future. It was finally awarded its legal designation in May 2016. The Claypits presents the opportunity of becoming a fantastic 'platform' and venue for the delivery of a host of projects and activities, being both for nature conservation and leisure/recreation.
